World building is a powerful tool to unlock potential stories, characters and other fictional exploits that communicate to people globally.
This intensive 12-week semester is a solid and thorough exploration of the possibilities this mode of storytelling offers creative people from many different fields and is equally relevant for creators working within animation, comics, video games, apps and beyond.
The world building semester course is aimed at participants from a wide range of fields:
- gaming (programming, level design etc.)
- apps (programming, design etc.)
- visual design

What?World building is a narrative practise that takes the totality of a fictional world as the starting point for many stories across different platforms. World building is a powerful tool to unlock potential stories, characters and other fictional exploits that communicates to people globally. This course is a solid and thorough exploration of the possibilities this mode of storytelling offers creative people from many different fields and is equally relevant for creators working within animation, comics, video games, apps and beyond.
Over the course of almost three months, the students will acquire the skills and knowledge to work methodically and innovatively with the creation of fictional worlds for a cross-media field. The Course will end with a five-week production where the students in groups will create fully formed Story Bibles detailing elements of the fictional world as well as platform options, story vectors and beyond. At the end of the final project, professionals from relevant businesses (film, game and TV producers, publishers etc.) will critique the projects.
The course will offer a mixture of lectures, guided workshops and self-guided workshops. Students will work in teams throughout the course.

Studying “ Building Worlds”, you are a full time student spending your days at the school with your fellow students. Your days are full of class room teaching, project work and feedback, extracurricular activities such as additional life drawing, inspirational talks, sport and social events.
Teachers will represent a wide field of professions, from World Building experts such as Juan Diaz (World Building Institute) and Martin Rauff (Barda) to artists, writers and scientists.
