Machine

Set in an almost present world, Machine describes a moment in the lives of John and Liz, a mid-thirties couple living in a seaside village situated in a nostalgic old Europe. John stands on a bridge and throws up the memories of his child. An army of children watches from the bridge. Liz destroys their home, and afterwards develops the last photographs her dead son took. People are deformed by baggage – it pushes their skin out and deforms their bodies. Giant industrial machines upturn the cobblestone streets, paving them with fresh concrete and tar. Hundreds of white windmills stand guard on the hillsides encircling the town.

Machine is a film about change, the upheaval it brings, and vacuum it leaves behind. It is the story of two people who have lost their child and live in a town they have just arrived at. It is the story about a city that destructively makes itself anew, about death, and the impossibility of escaping violence.
