Gefion
2D animated short by Kaj Pindal.
Plot
In prehistoric times in Sweden there lived a giant woman named Gefion and her four sons. One day the Swedish King Gylve passed by her house. The King insulted Gefion in such a terrible way that she, filled with rage, turned her four sons into oxen, put them before a plough, and plowed a huge piece of land out of Sweden, an event which caused chaos, earthquakes and fires all over the world. With the help of her sons, Gefion dragged the enormous piece of land into the ocean and dumped it there. When the water subsided, the most beautiful green island appeared. Today, we call this island “Sjælland”, and A.P. Møller Mærsk calls it by its English name “Sealand” which is written on ships and containers all over the world.
The project
Many people around the world have seen the word “Sealand” written on containers and ships, but they do not know what it means. Likewise, though the Gefion fountain in Copenhagen depicts Gefion, it does not tell the myth.
Kaj Pindal is aiming to spread the knowledge of both Sealand and Gefion to the world. He is the originator of the project, but he is planning to leave the production part to other people, though still with his finger in the process.
