The Glorious Quest, 2D hand drawn animation

By Ketil Bleidin (Norway)

This short film tells the religious fable of when God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son. This fable is shared by the three monotheistic religions in the world: The Christians, the Jews and the Muslims. But this is not a religious film. Instead, it is a religious story told from a non-believers point of view. It is not clearly stated in the film what the tale is, and names are not mentioned either. This will make the tale less predictive and allow the audience to see this fable with new eyes. The main intention of the film is to portray the lunacy of letting common sense and ethics yield to blind fate (religiously motivated or not).

The main part of the film portrays Abraham’s inner struggle on his way to sacrificing his son. He finds that both moral and logic forbids him to go through with the task, but in the end he realizes that his faith has giving him the strength to do anything. The victory over doubt will seem positive until the audience learns what it enables Abraham to do.
