Expenses during the study period

There are no tuition fees for students coming from Denmark, the Nordic countries and countries within EU/EEA, including Switzerland.

Students coming from countries outside of EU/EEA must pay tuition fee, unless they hold a permanent Danish residence permit. Paying the first year’s fee is a precondition for obtaining a student’s residence permit.

Materials fee
All students must pay a materials fee of DKK 2,200 (€300) per month during the first 3 years of the education (a total of DKK 79,200 (€10,640) for the Animation programme and DKK 92,400 (€12,400) for Graphic Storytelling).

The fee covers elements which students at other institutions are expected to provide/pay for themselves, and include: Individual work stations including an industry standard computer and Wacom board, animation drawing table, various animation supplies: specialty pencils, paper, books and readers, sketch books, study trips to animation film festivals, software and materials related to creating the productions and much more.

Application fee
Please note that there is an application fee for non-EU applicants.

Living Costs
You should expect average monthly living costs between DKK 5,000 and 7,000 (roughly €650 - 900), including accommodation. More information about costs for dormitory rooms can be found here

Financial support

Financial support for Danish students - SU
The bachelor programs are approved for SU for the official duration (3˝ years or 41 months for Character Animation and CG Artist and 4 years or 46 months for Graphic Storytelling).

Financial support for students from EU/ EEA countries
As a general rule, foreign students are not eligible for the Danish educational support scheme (SU).
EU citizens may be eligible for SU if they have a contract for 10-12 work hours per week.

Financial support for tuition-paying students from countries outside the EU/EEA
Until 2017, VIA offered a limited number of scholarships to cover the tuition fees for a shorter or longer period of your education. Currently, there are no scholarships available for the education.
