Admission procedures

For International Students

Here you can find all relevant information about the admissions procedures for applying for the bachelor programmes in Character Animation and Computer Graphic Art at The Animation Workshop.

As all teaching at the two Bachelor programmes (Character Animation and CG Arts) is in English, The Animation Workshop also welcomes international applicants. The requirements are the same as for Danish applicants, since admission is based on drawing skills, motivation and English language skills.

General procedures
When you apply for the bachelor programme in Character Animation or Computer Graphic Art, you go through the Danish Ministry of Education's application system called KOT - the common application procedure for all higher educations in Denmark. You can find the relevant information and Danish Ministry application forms here.

The application form must be handed in either electronically or on paper. Either way you must also send in a portfolio, showing your work (see below for portfolio requirements), and an English language test certificate (see below).

After the application deadline on March 15, an admissions committee will select applicants for interview and test. The interview and test will take place in April/May, and by June, the committee will notify the applicants of the results of the admissions tests. The interview and test can be done via Skype.

If you do not pass the admissions test, you will be offered an individual critique and feedback on both portfolio and admissions test results.

Admission Criteria
There are 3 different criteria which must be met in order to apply for the Bachelor programmes:

  • Educational background
  • You must hold the equivalent to a high school diploma/A-levels (in Danish: STX, HTX, HH, HF).

  • English skills
  • All international non native English speakers must together with the application send an English language test certificate from IELTS, TOEFL or other tests of an equivalent standard.

  • Drawing skills
  • Both Bachelor programmes are a talent based educations, which means that it is exclusively your skill level and potential demonstrated in your portfolio which will determine your chances of being admitted.

The specific requirements for the portfolio are listed in the links below.

Before applying for the Bachelor programme in Character Animation, many applicants find it useful to attend the semester course in classical drawing at The Drawing Academy located on campus; The Drawing Academy offers courses of one semester of intensive high end classical drawing.
