12 Drawings a Day

An animated diary by Denis Chapon, 2D animation

The 23rd of June 2008, I went to the copy room. I found so much of paper printed on one side and blank the other side that I thought of doing something with it. That exact same day I drew 12 drawings of animation. That's one second. I did that everyday since. That project has no script, no storyboard, is drawn with none erasable pen, and I do not change the rhythm of the animation afterwards.
- Denis Chapon

The experimental 12 Drawings a Day – an animated diary started as a side project to Denis’ main project the TV series for children Wild Wide Walrus, and was begun partly as a way of sharpening his drawings skills while developing stories for his main project and partly as a contribution to the environmental debate. Denis draws on the backside of already used paper just waiting to be thrown out. The end result is an ecologically conscious, fascinating animation which includes autobiographical events as well as imaginary and fantastic incidents.
